Information
I'm Andy Portsmouth and I'm pleased to be able to offer you this elegant Maison de Maître (manor house) from 1845, originally the mayor's house, in the historic small town of Charroux, in the Vienne department of France (86250). The coach house has been converted into a popular 5-bedroom 4-bathroom holiday rental, with living room, kitchen-diner and pool. Also, there are two original outbuildings, you'll see them in the video. The main house has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, a study, living room, dining room, and a kitchen that still has the original marble floor and curved-wood fitted corner cupboard. In fact the house is full of its original features, the doors and door handles, the windows and shutters, the marble fireplaces - the one in the dining room is particularly ornate, and the antique bathroom has opal stone bath surrounds and washbasins - even the taps are made of opal.. you'll see them in the video. One characteristic I particularly like about this house, is that all of the main rooms have windows on two sides - that's the living and dining rooms, the study, and all three of the bedrooms on the first floor. So the house feels nice and bright, despite being an old building. It is heated by a heat-pump to the radiators, mains drains, fibre. The garden has many mature trees, a stone wall runs along it with an outbuilding at the end. The garden continues on around the house, including a large vegetable garden, a 25m2 workshop, and then to the beautiful 9x4m heated swimming pool installed only 3 years ago, with bar. Charroux is on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route, and had an abbey dating from the 8th century of which only the octagonal tower remains (you'll see it in the video). At the time of the French revolution, the remains of the abbey were sold-off in five lots - the remains of the church became a stone quarry, but fortunately the tower was bought separately and was preserved. The town centre has three café-bars, a bakery, pharmacy, hairdresser, bank, post office, garage, and school. A supermarket is only 8km away at Savigné. Fibre internet. Mains drains. The house has a heat-pump, modern electrics, insulated attic.
